How to block a member - and how to undo it
Blocking is a personal, quiet setting - the other member is never told about it, and no moderators need to get involved.
Setting a block
You can block a member from the following three screens: their cards in your newsfeed, a conversation from them in your messages, and their profile (next to the follow and message buttons). On each of these, look for the small "block this user" icon; clicking it opens a short confirmation dialog that spells out what a block does. Confirm it and the block takes effect right away. (The wikiloops team and moderators can't be blocked, so they can always step in to help when needed.)
What a block does
Once a member is blocked, their activity disappears from your view across wikiloops - their tracks, comments, forum posts and newsfeed entries stop showing up for you, and you won't receive any more messages or notifications from them. It's a tidy way to clear unwanted noise out of your day, with no fuss and no confrontation.
Blocking only works one way
A block changes what you see, not what the other member sees. While they are hidden from you, you stay fully visible to them - they can still come across your tracks, profile and activity, right up until they decide to block you in return. So think of a block as hiding someone from your view, rather than making you disappear from theirs.
Lifting a block
Changed your mind? Open the blocked member's profile - while a block is in place the profile shows up greyed out, and the "block this user" icon is replaced by an "unblock" button. Click it, and things go back to normal: their tracks, messages and notifications can reach you again.
