It's difficult in an urban world where people are so removed from nature for those people to have respect. For most water comes from the tap and food from the supermarket. They have no connection. Nature is a pest to be kept out of our houses and cities unless totally domesticated. As the those cities expand, so nature retracts. And on it goes. We are a self centered and disrespectful animal. I cringe when I hear the only justifications for saving nature being that a plant may contain a miracle cure for people. Should nature only be respected if it's seen as useful for people? The whole attitude is wrong. I don't know how this can be changed.
