I love "Red hot chilli pepers", most album "Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic" best for me, raw and fierce,awesome bass ride,super guitars and drums. So I tried something in that vein. Simply hopping jam :)

Doesn't really work that way. I play off other people's chord structure. If I play a line (unless it's mindless and just one chord) others won't have a clue when/if there are changes. All they hear is one note at a time. The tune would either have to be recognizable or very unimaginative for anyone else to follow. Guitar and piano play chords. Bass plays tonic/dominant chord tones, so you can play off these and hear changes. I can play something for certain, but it's likely to be a dead end of just my playing, or not necessarily coherent. Easy to add melody after chord structure. Difficult the other way around, especially if it's not "conventional".
