Here, no there
Simple little thing that goes around twice. Another experiment with microphones. Pardon my sniffles going on.

A trip down a river...everything going smoothly then the sound of white water and series of questions? Will this be too much for me? Am I going to hit a rock? Then it's all past and everything is OK... a needless worry?

I can relate to that trip down a river.
In this instance during my microphone experiments, I learned positioning the mic 'here' or 'there' can make huge difference in tone. I guess really trying to capture the pure sound of the guitar without too much assistance from effects. +1

Sounding the best we can is a good idea/quest. Yet we still listen to records from times when the engineering was awful. Why? Because it's the music that counts more than the engineering. Your playing has always shone through. There's also a trap in uber-engineering that compresses everything and makes it all bland at high volume. Dynamics and appropriate volume for the mood/mode have fallen by the wayside for most sound engineers. Quality sound is important, but dumbing everything down for the lowest common denominator is (IMHO) not a great idea.
