Keiton Thanks for commenting. Often I play too many notes. It's hard to control the nuances of the left hand to synchronize with the strength of the pick when I only hear a few notes with such a clean tone. Furthermore, most people who want to listen to blues don't want to hear distorted sounds and fast playing, right...? But I did that many times:) +1

Wade We can play for others, or just for our own satisfaction. I'm somewhere in between and play way too much when recording. Then I listen as an unbiased audience and edit down to something that may be OK.

Another way to approach? Does that makes sense? +1

Keiton It is difficult to balance satisfying myself and satisfying my listener. There are many people who can talk about music without playing an instrument. Being a good player is always everyone's ultimate goal, but I think it is important to be a good listener before that. If we can look at what we play from a third party perspective, we may succeed on that track. When we can't do that, we tend to turn up the volume on our stems too loud. Perhaps being a good listener is the key to success when mixing. Maybe all we need is to be able to imagine ourselves in the environment where the music is playing. Maybe this is the eternal theme for all of us:) +1
