This is a song for the youth ... they're living through a rough time.

Good vocals again Alex - but also here, levels are way up high (and so it distorts, try to level down a bit, like -1 or -2dbTP (true peak), and -16LUFS (average loudness)) :)

Thank you, wjl. I would be grateful for advice.
When I mix the track so it sounds good on my home system (using Audacity), then upload it to Wikiloops, the vocals become much too loud and clipped. What am I doing wrong?
Is it because the file is much larger in Audacity (.aup) then in .wav and .mp3?
How can I mix it at home so it sounds good on Wililoops? +0

Hey Alex, and good that you ask :)
I don't have any idea on how to mix with Audacity, haven't seen something like a mixer window in it. I'm using Ardour which is available as a binary download for the sum of your choice (starting at 1$ I think) for all major operating systems (I'm on Linux). In Ardour like in every other DAW I know you'll have a mixer window (or section), and during export you can even choose the levels you'd like. I have written about that in https://www.wikiloops.com/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=1993 with a sceenshot in https://www.flickr.com/photos/wjlonien/46797346491/sizes/o/ - and by now I even limit my "true peaks" to -2dB which makes the exports compatible with most streaming services (like YouTube, Spotify, Deezer, Apple, Amazon, here...) the 6.9 version of Ardour has output targets named like that which makes it really easy.
Hope that helps? If not, feel free to ask in the forum, we have several good mixing engineers around here :) +0

Totally agree with wj! The actual vocals and melody are great - very close to what I would have imagined - but the levels are not great. So just need a good mix. Generally if you are clipping it's because the input volume is too high - so turn down the "level" on your mic. But keep trying as you have a great voice!

Thanks so much, Dan! I'm learning that I'm singing too close to the mike, and I might need to turn down the "level" as well.
