It doesn't matter if you haven't done anything or been anywhere but if you have, all the better.
Otherwise just write about what you See, Hear, Think or Feel in the wonderful wikiloops Diary.

NB - No Politics, Religion, personal attacks or selling.

We like success stories or help and advice.... but we love <3 pictures of animals, gardens, holidays, artwork, DIY or gear !

Monday 2nd February.

There's a lot of news about cold weather, snow and storms but where I live we've seen nothing bad at all, in fact I feel as if the Winter is already over.

Today I had to accompany someone to hospital and hang around waiting for ages.
I dislike hospitals, obviously because they are filled with ill, sad, worried people, but also because of the endless long corridors and hobbling around with a walking stick was a trial today. This particular hospital is run down and very dated but the staff are so friendly and helpful, I don't know how they can do some of the things they have to do.
I was very glad to get back home after 5 hours and make myself a welcome and deserved cup of tea :)

Feb 4th 2026,

**Thoughts after last nights recording session**

while I spend a lot of time on Wikiloops it still hasn`t become a boring routine. Each track I listen to is a one off, a unique event, never a routine I follow just out of habit. But there is an addictive aspect to listening to real handmade music and wondering how a track came to be and what went through the minds of the musicians.

**The thing with my bass/The Ernie Scale**

I feel that - finally - I`m starting to understand the magic of the bass guitar. Not, I hasten to add, that I`m becoming good at playing, but simply getting a feeling that I`m not holding a foreign object in my hands anymore but a means of expression. It`s a personal milestone of sorts.

Wikiloopers will know that I measure progress using the Ernie scale (note to self: create wikipedia entry for that). Last summer I was at -97, meaning that by my reckoning it would take me 97 years of practice to reach the level of playing Ernie is at right now. I think I have now progressed to at least -50, so basically I can now think of myself as a bass playing Ernie in diapers :D (Try to get that image out of your head :@)

**Things to ponder**

- Where is Shi?
- Why do bassists seldom upload an HD?
- There`s a raven perched on a house opposite me. Why do I get the feeling he`s been watching me for days?

Wednesday 4th February

When we were driving home in the dark I saw a man walking along swinging a bag of dog poop, he was almost dancing! Oddly however, I couldn't see his dog... hmm!

Anyway, after I said to my companion "Look at that guy swinging that poo" we both started to sing "Well I never felt more like swinging the poo" to the 'Singing the Blues' melody. It was funny that we both had the same idea. Of course, when I got home I had to write new lyrics.
If you know the song you can sing along :) Here's the new lyrics :-

Well, I never felt less like swingin' the poo
'Cause I never thought that I'd ever lose
my dog here, why'd he leave me this way?
Well, I never felt more like searching all night
'Cause everythin's wrong, now he's out of sight
Without him, I'm just left swingin' the poo.
The moon and stars no longer shine
The poop was his and now it's mine
There's nothin' left for me to do
But try to dump this bag of poo
Well, I never thought he'd be runnin' away
But why did he wander off today
Without him, I'm just swingin' the poo.

PS, the original version was a bit more naughty :(

:D Hey, never use the word "sits" in poetry about poo, it will only have one image in the mind of a reader :o

Guys, nothing great to report, I've been down with a cold this week, my nose alone could have solved the water problem of the Sahara :D But I'm on the mend.

More news soon :D

-Last week it was finally freezing. -30 degrees.

I tried to take a video for you because the day was really beautiful, but my phone didn't like the cold. I only got a few seconds of video, after that it went dark 😂

Well, that was just one day. Now it's only been -14 here. But anyway, I'll post a screenshot of that video, even though the picture is bad.

-I got punched in the face a little harder for the first time in boxing. I have to admit that I didn't want to get in the ring in the next training sessions, I was a little scared.

-My wife's birthday is coming up soon. My youngest son is going to stay overnight with his older brother, so my wife and I will be alone, which is really nice.

-Otherwise, my day is spent watching the Winter Olympics.

I’m still using my infrared lamp — it’s a real vintage one (type Original Hanau Solilux), probably around 70 years old, and it still works perfectly.
You can still buy replacement bulbs today for about €10, and they have the same dimensions as the old ones.
In shops, these lamps are sold as infrared heaters for piglets and chicks. For piglets and chicks 😆
…and for a few humans in old apartments with high gas prices.

Well, last week was Mrs wjl's birthday - and next week will see mine. No winter Olympics here, because, well sports are what you're doing yourselves, right? ;)

Anyway - our kid, formerly known as https://www.wikiloops.com/artist/Zuleikha%20L - was here, although she's a bit busy with her studies (of medicine). So I haven't been online as much...

Wolfgang, you have such a clever, talented daughter, I had no idea she had posted music at wikiloops, wonderful. Your house must be such a lovely place with music and pussy cats. Happy birthdays to you <3

I always like to watch the Winter Olympics, it fascinates me. The speed, the danger, the skill. The British girl just missed out on a bronze by 0.41 of a second in an event where she turned herself inside out, spinning and twisting and then landing perfectly, I don't think she could have done more. I also like watching the figure skating... I often have dreams that I'm skating perfectly on ice, but the one time I tried for real, I couldn't let go of the barrier :o
