I'm at a point in life where it's a struggle to just keep my chops up and have enough time to play. Learning to do great mixes would seriously bite into my play time. Probably also a waste since I've got pretty bad tinnitus. In another life...

If I was a pessimist I'd stop playing now. No, just realistic. My ears aren't good enough to mix at a good level. Why should I spend very precious playing time training for something I'm not going to be effective in doing? Would be like my going full out in training to be a basketball star when I'm 70 years old, short and tubby. Just not reality. Best to know yourself and do the things we CAN do rather than beat ourselves up attempting the impossible.
