I do notice some of your stuff gets a little "busy" sometimes on parts where it might be better to just settle into a groove. For instance sometimes Im trying to sing along with it to find a chorus or verse etc....I start singing and all of a sudden a syncopated kick comes in and almost turns the beat around and im like "uhmm, I cant sing over that" lol.
With a bare track there is always the temptation to fill every single moment with something exciting. Its the same with guitars. Then u realize there are going to be like 20 more parts overdubbed lol.
I think a great approach is to just separate stuff. Have "boring" parts that are just solid bread and butter sections so others can build, but then put in 16 funky bars in the middle or on the end or whatever.
Dont be too hard on yourself though, keep rocking...we are all learning +1

I really appreciate the advice Jon. This site has been such a good learning experience for me. We're all growing on here. Such a great place to be a part of.

yeah, u gotta watch having too much of the "stutter" stuff or turning the beat around unless its going to be a straight funk song.
This is a great example of how to have your cake and eat it too. There are some syncopations and interesting parts...but on the verse its just dead simple and that makes it crazy heavy (imo) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hA1CKGGPYPA +0
