Kubrick Stare - Into the Void
Il n'y a pas encore de remix de cette session !
So many cool remixes to this one already, I decided to throw my own out into the void with a few effects and some left/right balance play. I wanted to give it just a tad more edge. Mixing is not my strong suit but I'll never get any better if I don't try! Might as well mess up my own track rather than someone elses. HAHA! I included the vocals with the added FX in this HD upload. The old ...

Nice job Kell!...If I may, I have a few pointers...this is just constructive stuff and intended to help....First of all, good job on separation and panning, it works well...You seem to have added a chorus effect to main vocal, imo you didn't need that...also, you have the vox really jumping out as per modern production, but you needed to do that with the music too..its a bit buried...what I do is adjust all levelstill I'm happy, then amplify in audacity as far as I can without clipping....i then apply a light touch limiter to even out dynamics and then amplify track again...you get a better balance that way...finally, listen closely and you will hear some of the vox are very slightly out of time (by about 1/64 beat) and need a little nudge to sit perfectly...this is probably due to recording latency....hope this helps, if there is any further advice I can offer, let me know....I'm sure there are better producers than me on this site that will chime in too!

Thank you Paul! :) I'm always up for learning. I actually had the music set louder than the vox, like a +1.9 and I had lowered the vocals to a -1.9 but I guess the effect I had on it still boosted them. I copied the existing vocal track and added a different effect to it. Trying to give the vocals some depth and oomph without adding volume. I raised the music level but I was starting to clip in the red so I stopped. I've never messed with the limiter (because I had no idea what it was). Self taught on Mixcraft Pro Studio 9. There's so many things on it it's overwhelming. Also I broke my headphones last night. :o They snapped right in half. Lol Any recommendations on brand for replacement for hearing a good mix? I had some cheapos and I'd like to get a good quality pair to hear all the things. I do appreciate the tips! I record with a simple USB mic and a plain old computer so latency is probably definitely an issue and I am mentally incapable of using a click track so timing is always a bit of a struggle for me. Thank you for the feedback. This will help me learn and grow! :D <3

Cool....I use Mixcraft Pro Studio 10.5 so if I can help with any issues related to that, just ask...you may know already, but are you using mastering headphones rather than ordinary ones?...if so, they will colour the music and remove some transparency....I find Audio-Tecnica or AKG make good value ones...as far as pc is concerned, you really want a minimum of 16gb ram and a solid state hard drive to promote smooth recording...nothing wrong with usb mic, but I would recommend interface...i use cheap umc behringer one..in the meantime, just be aware you will need to nudge your vox sligtly to ensure they sit right in the mix...it may sound picky, but it really affects how they are perceived by the listener....it's a steep learning curve, but you'll get there, you're not far off already.

Defo upgrade your headphones first and make sure they are reference/mixing ones not ordinary listening ones....your mixes will thank you for it!

Wow, Paul! You were right. I got my new studio monitoring headphones and I can HEAR SO MUCH MORE with these! Now I can hear the overpowered vox. Yikes! LOL

Like Johnny said. I could not agree more. Absolutely brilliant. I don't know why I generally prefer female vocals. Now I know again. Off to the charts with this one...

It's all personal preference. I know there are some people who do not like female vocals at all... Especially in metal unless they can sound like the dudes. 🤷♀️ I like it all. I appreciate your kind words, Anrak! 🤘🏻🖤

He is staring at you Kell...:o
Practice makes perfect...mixing is very difficult, we all hear stuff differently and have different equipment, etc....mixing is my least favorite thing:( Love the ideas you put into this one <3 +1

It also happens to be my least favorite thing too. Luckily in Symphony of Crows my band mate does all that stuff. He's the seasoned professional with the fancy equipment. Lol
