Reflections
This piece kinda came about thinking about the state of affairs here in the US...It's contemplative...slightly tense...It's trying to remain calm yet stand firm and hold onto hope amid the amplification of extremes. Yeah...something like that.

Good playing. Must be hard to be in a place so polarized. When you're surrounded by "believers" who aren't capable of listening much less thinking, it's hard to see a good outcome... especially when they own lots of guns. Wishing you peace and safety.

It's interesting times to say the least. The media and the heads of the political parties have really amped up the divisiveness more than I have ever seen in 50+ years...maybe it was like this in the Civil Rights era too...was too young for that but it is trying to say the least especially when you have children to think ahead for.

As an oldie I went through the Civil Rights movement in the USA. It was probably much more intense in the south with "Jim Crow" laws, yet it didn't have the majority of the country divided or the level of polarization you're experiencing now. Certainly there was nobody advocating storming the capital, or a Supreme court that did the bidding of a president. The checks and balances were somewhat robust with the exception of J Edgar Hoover in the FBI who was a nasty little untouchable dictator in his own fiefdom.
Political systems that just divide the people without regard to coming together to do what's right or necessary are becoming the norm. Why even have representatives being paid to sit in congress or a parliament if the party whip tells their members how to vote? Why debate when nobody is listening or will vote differently than what they are told by the party whip. When all the agencies of government, judicial, legislative and financial are dictated to by the executive, then checks and balances no longer exist. It's always been a problem that nobody elects the members of cabinet. Wasn't as much a problem though when they were mostly just the best person around who knew a lot about those specific areas. When they are all "yes men" then you have a dictatorship.
The rest of the world is watching and not amused. In Thailand they have been regularly criticised for having military coups. It's actually a good thing when it seems otherwise an untenable situation and gives a "cooling off period" after which there has always been a hand over to civil rule... when/if the participants remain "civil". Is it correct to interpret the recent ruling by the supreme court would mean that Joe Biden could shoot Trump and not be prosecuted? How's that for absurd irony? +0
