I was wondering. I looked at the weather in both places and 88% humidity where you are and flying to 8c degrees, I hope it isn’t a long flight.

Over four hours from Australia to NZ and over 5 hours going in the other direction. Not close! In couple of weeks will be in the UK... that's 24 hours flying time + transfers. Glutton for punishment?

Ouch! I think about the jet lag and hope you don't have to perform soon after landing. It would take me 2 days to start to feel human again after so long sitting.

It's possibly a last whoopee ride to Europe. My wife's going blind and wants to see her 97 year old mother for the last time, and I'm then going to Germany for the jam, which may also be my last.
However we are also going diving in Indonesia eight days after that, also probably for the last time. With the wife's eyesight failing she wishes to see those underwater wonders just one more time while she can. We will probably keep going back and forth to Australia though as we also live part time there (four months of the year). I also have work there, so it's a good excuse to avoid NZ winter. +1

Sorry to hear about your wife’s visual impairment, it is one of the true horrors of growing old. We have a good local friend who has Macular Degeneration and is now mostly blind. In his late 80’s now, he was a world traveler and art collector so it is doubly difficult. We keep hoping and watching for a real cure for these visual maladies.
Yes, I read about the jam a month after it was posted and checked into going but there were too many tiny gotcha’s all along the plan that made me finally give up. Mostly it was that I was that month too late to get the options and I am 20 years out of practice traveling for a quick one-off jump like the jam. I would have enjoyed seeing/hearing you and the others.
It’s great that you have this option to go between 17 deg. S and 37 deg. S as necessary. It is especially inspiring since you came from near here and decided to risk the huge move initially. Sounds like it’s about perfect for you and with the whole other side of the planet of unique elements to explore. +0
