PaulM44 Peut-être que cela en inspirera un autre qui prendra une partie et la transformera en quelque chose de plus simple qui pourra être assemblé.

Sparse with nice sounds and interwoven rhythms! +1

PaulM44 Thanks but I'm afraid I still made it too complex again. +1

Wade John Coltrane was noted for playing way too much and once asked Miles Davis what he should do. Miles said "Try taking the f***ing horn out of your mouth." I'm not saying that to you...however you get the idea for when/if (in your opinion) it's too much.

Another approach is that you keep each layer/track separate then take the "onion" approach and peel back layers until you get to the essence... without what seems (to your ears) to be superfluous.

PaulM44 Good point. It seems right until it is submitted.... Probably a symptom of spending too long working on parts and having too many "related ideas available" not being able to judge the whole later. I know less can be more but it keeps sounding like less.
I am coming to believe making backing tracks is natural for some and not for others....

Wade Depends. Some just post something close to a finished work and don't care if there are any adds. If posting a template for others, then leaving something to the imagination or just stating the minimal can be enough. When there is too much going on it quickly gets "messy". However I can't stress enough that this is all according to YOUR judgement.

I've seldom posted a template. One note at a time makes it difficult and I'm not proficient enough to play anything other than woodwinds. Other end of the spectrum!

PaulM44 “Other end of the spectrum” is right. I like to add to complex works or those with 3-4 players.

Starting a new work for me “requires” drums to set the feeling (click [without syncopation] is for robots). Then keys or guitar to set the melody or background and it is still a mere outline and not very satisfying.
Still, I am curious to hear what others can make of it. I really appreciate those who have the knack.
