I've only picked it up in the past year, and rarely at that..I bet you'll find it pretty easy to 'learn to play' as you're already proficient with a mostly similar instrument. I'd guess the biggest challenge would be that it's tuned more like a violin or cello, if you've not played anything tuned that way

When I think mandolin, I immediately think Bill Monroe. Grew up surrounded by those sounds.

GDAE, I think. Bill Monroe was great, I'd also recommend Chris Thile/Punch Brothers for great mandolin centered music
