Well I got this job,
Wasn't looking too hard,
Fell into my lap,
Simply playing my cards.

I was pretty good,
At the slight of hand,
Could create illusion,
I was a one-man band.

I started out small,
With just a few of my friends,
Soon they were all losing,
And that was the end.

I had to change towns,
To keep myself float,
Taking money from gamblers,
And gullible blokes.

I was flying so high,
Living i the life
Until I hit a patch,
In courting a wife

She was a woman,
Who seemed rare and true,
When she saw the wad in my pocket,
I thought that I knew.

Soon she did fleece me
Got my dues in the end,
Didn’t see it coming
Though she seemed just like a friend.

Now I'm back to zero
Not a penny to my name,
I was outfoxed,
Trying to play my own game.

If I had to do it over
I’d do the same thing
Because I am
A stupid man in the end.
