Thank you Glezbass for this cool and warm (!) template that had me trying to relax my shoulders and get into the groove

Ivanovitch You created a great track there; that soaring melancholy bass and the nimble piano lines +1
Wade
Liking the lines you've played but there's a tuning problem. +1

Ivanovitch Oooh

I have the tendency to go flat... oh well, I wrestled with this recording and an odd sibilance that crept in; so one for experience

Wade When/if you're consistently flat you can adjust that in your editing. It's only a problem if inconsistent, or you can't hear it. I have to admit to making "corrections" sometimes, especially if too excited in playing the sopranino. The high notes go sharp! +1

Ivanovitch Inevitable. I make corrections too; often for that crescendo note that's soaring a bit too well

But generally my intonation is simply not consistent across the octaves, nor across instruments... Some days I lock in like an Exocet and others I might as well bend the brass over my knee

Sometimes I haven't wanted to put the mouthpiece in further, sometimes I forget to control the embouchure

Thank goodness my livelihood is independent of my playing skills and, anyway, I quite like the frisson of uncertainty each practice brings... AND I'm a fan of just temperament, or any form of temperament that trumps the ubiquitous Equal

Wade Ha! Great answer. Switching horns can certainly make a difference. If playing just one horn you get used to its quirks and adjust your embouchure. When we switch horns our muscle memory doesn't make the switch too well. If you go from soprano to baritone it can be even more difficult. Not sure how long you've had each of your horns, but the longer the better for developing that "muscle memory". I had years of playing a Yani soprano and sopranino. Both required tightening the embouchure considerably to hit anything about A2. It took me ages to unlearn that when I sold those horns. +1

Ivanovitch I know roughly where I am on tenor. The other sizes of sax I approach with deep suspicion. Like being the zookeeper in charge of the Flamingo pond who's been reassigned to dental floss the polar bears

And yes the muscle memory is key... but each instrument needs those hours...

Wade I've been "chicken" to play anything but my sopranino and tenor for a while, but have just purchased an alto from Ewe in Germany. It's a bronze prototype Keilwerth. Wish me luck! I love playing alto, but don't have one that sings for me right now. Hopefully that will change, but I might have those intonation nightmares soon as well! +1

Wade Won't post anything right away with the new horn (got notice it was shipped today). I could send a clip to you for a laugh and a heavy critique! +1
