The throat of hell bellows loudly,
Stabbing swords of light in my direction.
I cower through the curtains,
At the sky, so angry with me.

More wrath unfurls,
Hurling years of abuse downward,
Where spirals inhale the terrain,
The grey funnels sucking up buildings
And vomiting them back
Across the plains.

Icy ponds freeze
Daring pedestrians to test their resolve,
The black ice laughing
At those who slip and fall.

Masquerading another tragedy
Hungry fires eat kindling for breakfast,
Belching black smoke,
They lick their lips
As roots are singed
Where soon the rains
Will drain the hillsides
And mud follows,
It’s slow black fists
Smothering cities below.

Nature is in revolt
With its unpredictable moods
Perhaps a reprieve will trick us
Into thinking the worst is over,
That heaven’s wrath will pass,
Until out of nowhere,
Black eyebrows knit tightly once again,
And the skies unleash their fury.
