In reggae, you need to play on the click really really tight. There's only a very small margin for "feel" on the drums. Actually the feel of reggae drums is best described as "stoic". It's the other instruments that build the special groove around the drums by all playing their own time. Therefore, the drums must lay the foundation.
Plus, a rimclick without a bassdrum sounds off for reggae IMHO. +0
