When I was a student, hip-hop was just emerging and people used to put together mix tapes where they'd randomly throw together drum loops and bits of bass riff they'd found. This drum track reminded me of that and I tried to recreate the effect - the splice at 2:14 is a deliberate example.
Anyway, please feel free to add. It really needs an Eric B type rap :)
