Some say that she's evil,
Some say that she's sad,
Others say when they lay with her,
That it's better than the life they had.
Some say she's the Devil,
Some say she's a myth,
Others say that the curse of life,
Can be broken by an Angel's kiss.
She is death.
Some say there's a rythym,
Some say there's a rhyme,
Others say only fate decides,
When to sweep away the sands of time.
Some say it's a pity,
Some say it's a shame,
Others say you can roll the dice,
But can never hope to win the game.
She is death.
Some say that she's lonely,
Some say that she's cold,
Other's say she's the opening page,
Of a story that is yet to be told.
Some say she's from Croydon,
Some say she's from Hell,
Others say that they're much the same,
Although Croydon has a stronger smell.
She is death,
She is death,
Forged in the fire of a Dragon's breath,
Tempered in a well of tears,
She is death.

I must apologise for having another poke at Croydon (sorry, sorry, sumimasen gommenasai).
It just sort of fell in to place (It's an M23 thing...)
- Mind you it was originally "Heaven" and Hell in that verse.
So there's that.
Otherwise, the whole thing is a massive pun on She/Shi. Shi in the context of the
loops is, of course, a wonderful singer and writer with a magic trolley - but "Shi" (死) means
death in Chinese and also in Japanese - although said slightly differently in Chinese dialects.
The number four in formal Japanese is also pronnounced "shi" although written (四).
However, this connotation makes it a very unlucky number in both cultures and many
buildings in the region have no floor four (ie they go 1,2,3,5 etc) which is similar
to what you see in some western buildings where floor 13 is ommitted for similar reasons.
Many Japanese speakers will use "yon" instead of "shi" when counting to avoid sounding
like they are bringing up death all of the time. Fortunately, this did not extend to
Michie Nakatani the original bass player of Shonen Knife - one of Japan's greatest ever
bands (IMHO). When doing Ramones covers in particular she used to yell "ICHI, NI, SAN, SHI!!!"
(à la Dee Dee Ramone's 1-2-3-4) to count the band in. Brilliant.
And, yes, I confess. I do also think female depections of the Grim Reaper look very cool.
Anyway, enough of that - Lets Knife!

Wow! Two fantastic and original versions from two multi talented Artists. Thank you both so much for giving it a spin. Really enjoying listening to both.
Btw before changing it to Croydon from Heaven, the last line was "Although Heaven has sweeter smell" I'm not convinced I was right to do it... Though it does make me smile.
