this track has always stuck out to me, because it totally became a "DanDiplo" style of track. i feel Dan really has an identifiable sound and style that is uniquely his. it's often described as cosmic, galactic, interstellar, and other worldly terms. it's recognizable. it's uniquely him. so when he took a guitar template of mine and made it truly his, i was blown away. it has always stuck with me <3 much kudos to Dan <3 and if you're not following him, you should

As good as this mix is, I'm not sure we needed 5 links Zoot ?)

Moving on

I've lost confidence in my thread ideas lately, not sure I should keep pushing for contributions. I'm a bit of a bossy lady and I tend to want folk to play it my way, if it all goes pear shaped my instinct is deletion and I can't delete anything in a thread apart from my own posts (which leaves gaps) so it's a little frustrating at times.

There's something very satisfying about wiping slates clean and moving on. There's also a lot of closure in writing a song which expresses what you can't say to people's faces. Leave it ambiguous and let your audience 'take it personally' or not.

The nice thing about writing lyrics (and reviews to some extent) is that you're perfectly entitled to lie, exaggerate, fantasize, criticize, insult, stir up, well there is nothing you can't do and say in music as we all know. Maybe this is why reviewing someone else's art is pointless because we only ever know how we see/hear and interpret anything so is that any use to anyone else? Maybe we just like the sound of our own voice/opinions and we're seeking acknowledgement and thanks from the compliments we write. :) Whole careers have evolved by either being very rude or being very sycophantic or insincere - people will often believe what they want to believe and dismiss unpleasant truths :(

Safer to stay with the "Awesome" and "Great" responses. If we get no compliments we can take it that either our mix hasn't been seen or it's not liked. Silence says so much more than words doesn't it!.

Exactly, the greatest compliment is an add to something we upload. One of the nice things about wikiloops is that the music itself is the main language spoken here - no need to overdo the analysis.

Shamika in a provocative mood? Ok, I'll bite.

I think lack of comments is not per se a sign of not liking a track. I listen to tons of tracks every day and have thoughts on most of them. But I really don't want to inflate the comment section with MySounds this and MySounds that. Seen others do that on other platforms and it smells a bit like 'I comment therefore I am'.

Also, there are tracks here that I find just plain interesting because either the style is new or inaccessible to me (Bossa Nova is a good example, I used to dance to bossa nova tunes when I was younger, but I just don't understand it from a musical point of view), or it's simply not my cup of tea. So while I may appreciate something as being well executed, I couldn't possibly comment.

But we have so many great tracks here that I've already ruined 2 mouse buttons by always clicking on the like button.

But whatever you do, DON'T delete uploads simply because of lack of comments. They may come in much later plus you're taking the opportunity away for others to build on your input later or at least to inspire someone.

Same is true for forum threads. Sometimes they just sit around and months later someone picks up on it and sets off a discussion.

Bossy Lady? Hah!

Thanks Zoot, glad you saw what I saw :)

Thanks My Sounds, I just want to explain that the 'delete' passion I have is therapeutic in a way. I'd never do it after a bad (or no) comment, it's usually because I realise I've had a bad idea or I 'go off' something I've done and no longer enjoy it myself. However, some uploads have a short lifespan so I might delete the quickly written novelty mix that people would never want to play twice haha!
I don't get many remixes to my vocal adds as I usually top the ladder, being a finisher.

I do have a ... er...shall I call it fetish, about uploading - making something go live is such a tingly thrill. :P I know I'm not alone with this as I see the same names (serial uploaders) regularly on the front page. For me, that's one of the joys of wikiloops,

I don't have plans and I don't make them, I just listen to that nagging voice in my head, I like to call her my Muse but she's rather fickle, she comes and goes.... today she is bossy and provocative :@

glad I'm not the only one :) I'm like that with jazz and classical stuff, I do listen to the artists who typically participate in those genres here, but I don't have a background understanding or much reference points for those areas to really comment. I know it sounds good, I just feel it would be like a beer guy commenting on fine wine :)

Anyway Shamika, even (bad) novelty mixes add to a listeners knowledge and experience.
Just follow my lead as the master of 'and here is another example of either a bad idea or a sub-standard execution' on which I pride myself with a 10% to 90% ratio. Even listening to something and thinking that that is not how you'd want to play it can be helpful. Believe me, I know as I always wonder what went through MySounds head when he pressed the record button.

(And that's neither kinky nor a fetish but a special feature :D)

Just spotted the thread...

Wanted to say a big thank you to BB6 for the kind words earlier - He writes some great stuff too that never fails to put a smile on my face :).

I have mentioned it before but I found w/l looking for drum/guitar/keyboard parts with bass missing that I could practise with. TBH what I had in my mind was well known tracks rather than original stuff where I had to work out which damn key it was in...

But it had me hooked in no time flat. (Or was that some time #, I forget). I've written poetry/lyrics for a long time but have always been very indisciplined about writing the stuff down. So, during the pandemic when I was stuck @home like everyone else, I discovered the lyric forum and thought here's an opportunity - Stuff occurs to me while practising all the time (as well as sitting on the bus actually - so I write it on my tablet and see if it makes sense later).

There is great stuff there by other writers - mine's, I guess, a bit different. Ok, borderline nutty on occasions.

I also inherited an accoustic guitar a couple of years ago and have been learning that. I've actually set a plan to try and contribute to a jam or two musically... need to sort out equipment here first which is more challenging now I am back to travelling a fair bit.

So I write a lot of words and practise (not as much as I'd like) It's a great pleasure that folks can use them and make something greater. Again I've said it before but it's equally amazing when someone uses one in a way I could have never imagined... Or the times when it sounds exactly like it did in my head. Very trippy.

I like structure so the verses are quite disciplined in terms of rhyme and rhythm - You don't know where the music will go so bridges and choruses can sometimes get in the way. People do get in touch and say Im going to use this lyric with a chorus I've added or "write me a bridge you lazy sod". All of which is good :)

Gary(axenvocs), Nick (rootshell) and Olivia(OKO) have all used words I've written in ways that have blown my mind over the last couple of years as have various others and recently I've been greatly enjoying what John Boda and Erwan have been doing.

I am not worthy.

Big shout out to all at w/l :), you are all wonderful.
