Zedders, 'the lost trainer' incident reminded my of a relative I had who ran a long stay guest house for older people. One morning at breakfast, one of the diners fell forward into the meal (actually died). While everyone was trying to deal with this, one old gentleman complained to the staff that he was still waiting for his tea and toast, apparently totally unaware of the fuss around him :) Shock does make people focus on little things that seem important to them, maybe it's a way of escaping the truth.... but I'm getting in too deep with my pseudo psychology now :)
Not at all, it's interesting. I think it's very common, kids do the same when they hurt themselves.

Apparently there is a restaurant in Australia (I think) where you pay to be insulted by rude waiting staff. They dis-respect you, shout at you, rush you and generally make a mess of your table..... and customers seem to love it.
What a funny old World we live in where some diners complain, send food back and don't tip for bad service, while other people enjoy having the worst meal of their lives because it's funnier ? A moral for life then... doesn't matter how bad things are, suck it up and "always look on the bright side of life" (Life of Brian)

What makes me sad today.... some guys just arrived to take down (well pollard) my very large Eucalyptus tree. It had to go because it was cutting out all the light and the leaves were filling the guttering. But I love trees and wild stuff so I don't want it to die today. Someone planted it in the wrong place years ago without thinking it would be such a big boy 50 years later :)

If you’ve ever seen the videos/emails/whatever where two childish people had rude names read out over Heathrow’s airport tannoy system (“Makollig Jezfahted… etc”) then you can rest assured I was fifty percent of that activity.
It’s was done in the early ‘90s by myself and a friend for Chris Morris’s (he of The Day Today and Brass Eye fame) Radio One show. The ‘story’ that gets told now about how it happened has well and truly been warped by the wider internet.
That’s my little claim to internet notoriety.

That would be enough for me. Classic. :D
The landlord of my local pub's parents must have had an evil sense of humour when they named him Michael Hunt and one old lady took advantage regularly by loudly asking if anyone had seen him. I'm sure you can work that one out.

I used to argue with someone from USA about the pronunciation of Robin Hood - it should be with the emphasis on HOOD not ROBIN so robin HOOD not ROBIN hood. I mention this to ask how people pronounce wikiloops I say WIKIloops and some say wikiLOOPS. It doesn't really matter but where are you on this? And is defence deFENCE or DEEfence or is that just when talking about US sports ?

I have moved house 5 times in the last 8 years and each time it only took a few weeks to know it was a bad move.
My imagination tricks me, I have to see, hear or experience something before I know if it's right.
I fall in love with things, have dreams about how my life might be, but I don't consider the practicalities like the work involved. Gardens need tending, systems break down, stuff needs painting, fixing or throwing out. Character property is fun... if you're just visiting. Nearby amenities are handy but they come with traffic and noise. What about sunlight, barking dogs, infestations?
I've come to the conclusion (possibly) that I'm the problem, not the houses.
If my mind was occupied with pleasant activities I could probably live on a park bench with my belongings in a shopping trolley
Hindsight is a wonderful thing :(

....and that is a big part of why I decided to live on a boat - moving is easy if you can take your home with you, no garden, massive downsizing of "stuff" you never use, - noisy neighbours? Untie 2 ropes, start the engine and move. Can't afford to live somewhere nice due to house/rental prices? You can in a boat. You can heat a boat on scrap wood, you can make your own power with the sun. No elec/gas standing charge, no water sewage bill, no council tax. Need a doctors appointment? As a traveller the law says you get one within (I think) 48 hours. No fixing old houses for the next owners benefit, you home moves with you.I have moved house 5 times in the last 8 years and each time it only took a few weeks to know it was a bad move.

Downsides - well, most people think housing is security. Living in a boat you have no rights really, no security, but when it comes to it in the UK you don't really have security of tenure anyway. I've been living aboard for 8 years now without a hitch. Best move I ever made. :)

It's been a strange day - this morning I went to the woods, quiet apart from birds and greetings from passers by. I did some tree hugging and got myself into a lovely relaxed mood.
This afternoon I was disappointed not to have more songs posted on my Wind Down thread :( I thought I'd add one myself..... how embarrassing to find that I didn't know how to do this, even after trolling through the "How to" tutorials and trying many times to get a music player in a post. So maybe other folk like me are having similar problems. I'm sure it's simple but .... so am I :)

I was just looking back to 2012 when I first discovered wikiloops. I joined in with a few jams and I thought the quality here was so high - but when I look at the members who were so prolific back then and checked them out today, so many hadn't uploaded anything for several years. It just made me feel a little sad that I couldn't go back and say thank you to them and all the people who left great comments for me too.

Being a member here is not so easy as you may first think. Every day I see mixes that I'm really interested to hear, then when I go in I see there are often many more remixes and I want to hear them too. I have stopped following anyone in particular because I doubt there's any music that I wouldn't want to play, so I just go through the new arrivals each day. It's exhausting - in a satisfying way :o :P
PS I started a new thread, for general chat, I thought it might be like an extended Shoutbox - thanks for imput here, see you there :)
