Marvin Gaye and James Jamerson, imho Jamerson was one of the most talented and influencal bass players ever. From 2:20 you can watch him playing - looks like he‘s almost in trance. Gayes‘ performance is outstanding too!

I first discovered this song through A Perfect Circle to realize 20 years later that it was not their original composition... they are really 2 different musical universes! and I really like both versions!
