Spotted something special on wikiloops recently ?
Tell us why we should look, listen, like and maybe learn from it !
Compliments in your newsfeed are nice but a fully fledged review from a fan may need to be shared across the site.
If someone has given you a compliment you appreciated then copy and paste it here !
But for the creative writers among us, this is a chance to give a bigger 'write-up' of anything NEW you find at wikiloops !
Could be ...
a tempting template,
an inspired remix,
a completed song that's radio ready or
a new member who has potential.
Whatever you want to say about what you heard and why you like it.
Tell us all and tempt us to play - share the love :)
It doesn't have to be a technical review (but it can be) Just explain why you like something you've spotted.
Please make this a long and interesting thread with as many posters as possible (in whatever language you prefer) and you'll make me very happy - Shamika <3

Here's a new remix that is so creative and indulgent it has had many likes and compliments but I enjoyed reading this from DirkL referring to Wade's old sax.
"100 years. At what point does it become time travel to hear this sound? Steam from manholes! Roasted chestnut carts! Incredibly beautiful saxophone in a dusty street on a dusty dude. Flames dancing in a steel barrel. That’s New York!"

I'd like to sing the praises of bassMonkey and his lyrics. What a lyricist, wordsmith, poet - you name it - we've got one of the best right here in our wikiloops midst! Take for example Lyric #3585 called Haunted Zeppelin Riff. He's written a whole song about a riff! That's amazing in itself. But what sets bassMonkey apart from many lyricists is the way he paints pictures and brings them to life so you feel it happening to you too. Here's a taster of some verses:
When out of the dark sprang a grisly ghost,
It was a haunted Zeppelin riff.
It was dirty and mean,
Like a can of cold beans,
And it was swinging like a dead cat bounce,
Tearing the carpet right off of my floor,
And then sitting there ready to pounce.
It's menacing tone,
Chilled me right to the bone,
When it took a big toke on my spliff,
It started knocking holes right through my walls,
It was a haunted Zeppelin riff.
And it went:
"Dang-a-dang dang di da da da,
Di-duh duh duuuuh bish-bang,
Da-di-da ding de da-di-da ding,
Chunga wunga bunga kerrang."
And it goes on... and he even writes notes about Led Zep and Jimmy Page in the comments that give it even more depth...
You almost don't need music to accompany bassMonkey's lyrics, they are a fascinating entity on their own, and they are a largely untapped resource freely available for musicians of all kinds. Dip in or write a tune around a whole song, there's something for everybody.

Thank for the heads up BB6. I see that, although bassMonkey plays bass there are no tracks uploaded so it seems that being a lyricist is indeed a big, rewarding activity. It must be very satisfying to hear your words performed in an original song, especially if you don't sing yourself. It's very hard to write in a 'singable' way too

Finding a new, virgin template that no-one has yet remixed is like unearthing a diamond. There is so much potential for every type of instrumentalist or singer to jump in at the deep end. I'm showing this one by Grathy. It's subtle, medium paced, possibly Latin and very tempting. It calls out for a lead, drums or a melody ? I'll be so interested to see who takes advantage of jamming along and the many ways it might turn out.

My shout out would be a rather obvious one - Shi.
Shi is the reason I ended up here.
Shi writes the lyrics, the melody, the backing vocals and never ever fails to deliver something that sucks you in and tells the story.
BUT
You can (and I do regularly) also take her vocal track (which she always uploads as a separate track) and put on completely different backing music. For example this one IIRC was a samba track when she sung it and IIRC all I did was adjust the speed to suit, chopped out a long silent part and made it start at the right place. So easy, such fun!
[wl]271098[/wl]
This one was my first Shi thievery, originally a reggae track Shi sang on. I mangled this one more but still... it made me so happy to have some vocals on one of my tracks and I've been here ever since.

I'm having a Wide Awake Club night tonight so I spent some time surfing the loops :)
Looking through recent 'compliments' I noticed some recurring adjectives like "Killer" "Kick ass" "Cool" "Awesome" but the most common seems to be just "Great"
These are all fine and universally understood and welcomed, but sometimes feedback could go further or deeper So, why not try a few synonyms to make your reviews more meaningful !
For example :-
Breathtaking
amazing
stunning
astounding
astonishing
awe-inspiring
stupendous
staggering
extraordinary
incredible
unbelievable
magnificent
wonderful
spectacular
remarkable
phenomenal
prodigious
miraculous
sublime
formidable
imposing
impressive
mind-boggling
mind-blowing
out of this world
I'm not sure how these translate, I'd be interested to find out what superlatives other languages come up with :)
Thanks... and keep those reviews coming B)

Superlatives In other languages may sounds quite rough. Especially idioms and road phrases. B)

My ultimate compliment is of course "Lovely template, which I`ll be sure to ruin with too many keys".
Honest and forward looking :-)

Tof and I now simply use “WTF?” and “LOL!”
Both of those cover our body of work.

Going down the slang or acronym route ?
What about :- Banging, Bitching, Sick, Dope and Bad
Some more British expressions :- Pukka, Cushty, Spiffing and Fab
I think there must be some great superlatives from 'Down under' ?
One's not to use :- ZZZ (unless it's a relaxation piece)
TLDL (Too long, didn't listen) songs I usually don't finish :(
TLDR (Too long, didn't read) probably my threads :)

I retain BRAVO as the ultimate compliment. A BRAVO is well earned and only applied to what I consider very exceptional tracks. I consider it a standing ovation for an exceptional performance and the performance being comprised of execution, technical skill and talent glued together with passion ,coming together as a whole.

The NEW reviews are a little thin on the ground so I'm giving you all a challenge.
Identify this template upload from some of the compliments it received.... name it or claim it :)
* Love those changes, the odd timing and the chords you use.
* Ambitious and very entertaining with its different parts, great work!
* Man Alive this Rocks Out ....Brutal Structure
* Sounds great bro!!! cool!!! nice n thick..love the changes n transitions...going into that beautiful clean outro...Nice
work!!
Give me a link (or name) if you recognize this upload :) <3

A little off topic, but Shamika has just given me an idea for a new feature. I`ll write it up in the feedback and suggestions thread

No, not really off topic, any response is a bonus MS
I read your idea. Well, on paper it sounds logical but as you can see in this thread, no-one is itching to review at a more intense or constructive level... so making it a universal addition probably wouldn't justify the effort.... but who knows. In the meantime I'd love to build a serious review section in the forum ! However I'm very conscious of the non English speaking members and wouldn't want to exclude anyone:|
