Vintage Blues Amp - '47 Masco

I had to break out an oldy but goody for this, my 1947 Masco tube PA that's been converted for use with guitar. It's very much like a '50s Tweed Bassman now. Three guitars straight in, no dirt pedals. From the start up to 0:49 is a MIM Telecaster, 0:49 to 1:35 is a Squire Classic Vibe Telecaster, from 1:35 to 3:54 is a Les Paul Standard and from 3:54 to the end is the MIM Telecaster again.

Oh how cool! Thats awesome! I really appreciate the breakdown of what is what within the track. Ive been setting up my Boss GT1000 amp modeler and it has not been easy. This sounds fantastic! You cant go out and just buy tone like that.

I love this amp. I found it years ago on Craigslist for $50. Since I got such a great deal on I decided to have the conversion done by a professional instead of doing it myself. I shipped it to a vintage amp guru in California who does them for harp guys, studios and famous players. He did an incredible job with it.

It's a fun amp. The amp dude that modified this was Skip Simmons. This was a 3 channel amp, 2 microphone channels and the phono channel. Skip voiced channel 1 dark like a bass amp and channel 2 brighter with more gain. The 2 channels are linked so you can blend them like a jumpered Bassman, JTM45 & Plexi. It's extremely responsive to the guitars you use which isn't that evident in this recording because I used cab IR's which made all the parts sound similar but it was a fun experiment.

It's definitely something different but has a familiar nice old amp sound. It was a great way to get a '50s Tweed Bassman for 1/10th the cost. :D

Man what a tone and what an awesome add my friend Ron!! Amazing the sound from that old P.A... frickin' cool man. The Masco looks like something you might have in your jail cell telling you what to think from the book 1984 ... it's telling me what to hear, haha .. talk about vintage .. :O Playin the different axes was a nice thing too. Sounds great.

These were used for school anouncements, bowling alleys, clean up on isle four announcements at the supermarket...etc back in the 1950's. They were typically built like tanks because they would be turned on and left on...for years. This was made in 1947 and has a full set of Sylvania tubes that were likely original. I pulled the old coke bottle 6L6GA power tubes and replaced them with RCA 6L6GC black plates. :o

Thanks Armin. :) It's definitely a special amp. I'm so glad I sent it to one of the best in the business at mid century tube PA conversions. He does a staggering amount of these so it was a long wait but definitely worth it. It's an amazing studio amp.
