It's clear that pop has peaked. It doesn't take a 15 minute rant with flawed studies and ad hominem attacks to prove that. The pertinent question is: what comes next? He disses electronic music. Personally, I think there's a lot of innovation happening in the corresponding genres.

What say you? Where is the future of music?

BTW, as an aside, he complains about a handful of producers writing all the music and running the show. He could have been describing Motown in its heyday.

Well, "Pop" music has always been crap! The problem with today, beyond the manifestation of computerized music, is that there are no popular bands on the fringes willing to cut there teeth and be different. In the past you had the Beatles, John Lennon, U2, Bruce ... Now, well, Lady GaGa is actually the best around. She still plays music!

My prediction? Everything is cyclical. At some point people are going to want to hear real, music played on instruments again! The Live performance may lead to this. Watching a DJ live can no way be as inspiring as watching a great band. So I say we are going to see a music revolution with Musician type bands using the rawest sound possible. A backlash so to speak: a new grunge. This music will not take over the charts, the processed crap will always be around, but it will scare people!

BTW, I like the part about the over compression of modern pop. I take it as a warning to my mixing on the Loops! :|

I predict a new revolution of elevator music will storm the charts. Pretty sure no one can refute my statement as we all know the greatest music ever is in fact ..elevator music.

Wow how annoying is that guy?? I literally wanted to punch him after 30 seconds. Man, 30 years ago someone like him would not be speaking into a camera like this :)

However, some of the points he made might be valid, but on the other hand popular music always was like this, quite silly. You listen to it one day, chuck it out the next. Even in the 40ies and 50ies, producers did not let the artist do what he wants, they tried to find "the next big thing". And once they found it, they churned out one after the other, with a few changes until it dried up. And regarding the lyrics, god there were some awful stupid things in the 70ies and earlier, only now the shubab bab dingelingling is replaced by bitch baby booty baby yo yo. Chart music was always McDonalds... I remember when I was young the old people would say terrible things about the devils music, Rock and roll, how this is dumbing down the people, and start comparing Elvis to Beethoven basically in the same manner as this dude. I guess we all feel that things go from bad to worse all the time, the young generation is getting dumber - but is that so? I feel they are getting softer for sure, not having to craft for anything, but certainly not less intelligent. Anyway, there is good music still made, no need to buy music from a gigantic singing butt if you don't want to...

Imagine there is a link and no one will follow...
The "echo-groups" (formerly called audience) will decrease to 20 to 35 people; the average size of a stone age group.
