got a eadfull of loose ends, so I'll try to sum things up once more...
what has been done?
-spent about ten days organizing, mixing and cutting the first wikiloops video collab clip, its featured on the front page theese days, so I guess I dont need to say much more about that.
- took the mobile page to the point where it works fine, looks like users dont like it tho, theres one frequent mobile viditor so far, while 90% of all smartphone users stay on the general layout... so much for the "app"-demand :)
- started a soundcloud group and got to see someof soundclouds way nice developed audio features... theese guys have been doing there homework well, but the limited webspace offered for free will answer the question of where theese guys are aiming once they got this big. No shaming, just noticing.
- did some research on caching settings and llowed short-trm caching of wikiloops content to save some bandwidth. Not 100% sure it doesnt cause bugs, some users reported logging in problems... I'll keep an eye on the issue.
- finally got around to reworking the profile, recoded the wall (now you get friends uploads notifications, no matter if its a remix of your track or not). No need to jump from profile to jam-view any more, since you can conveniently listen, comment and thumb from the profile now. I'm really fond of the new "remix-tree" feature built in there, actually used some bits developed for the in-radio-commenting and changed them for profile needs.
- besides the friends-uploads-wallnotification, I made sure all parent-mixers are getting notified of grandchild remixes, too (used to Email the direct parents remixer only till now), spent quite some time to make sure noone gets three emails because he remixed himself three times ;)
- after googles friendliness has dropped badly I went and did some more bughunting in the invisible parts of this page, hope they'll reward it with better search results soon. With the video collab promoing and keyword changes, I have been fightin hard to keep visitors around 300 a day. Since all forum promo has worn out and theres no adds for wikiloops, spreadin the word is down to users posts and a little FB-action - resulting in lower newbe recruiting, about 20 a weeks all right now.
whats on next?
I'm down to some minor things and cleansing, heres whats next:
- add remix link to profile trackview (thx simmr ;)
- start developing download counter (finally found a way...)
- add missing instruments (Melodica)
- check markup of changed profile pages
- edit loopsearch, put the advanced / backings / latest filter into another dropdown...
- rework musician search - the basics are cool, the looks are sh'*t...
- rework help section, add more screenshots
- update german and french sites... lotsa work
- start workin on a cookie-detection-based html5 player built... because there is lack of audio support in some browsers, I have to teach the server to recognize theese capabilities, save em in a cookie and display the html5-player only if the browser supports it... thats a pretty long way to have all fallback options ready, but seems the only way to do it safely theese days. Guess I'm going to combine this with a reworged player bar layout on the jam pages, I have a feeling no-one has ever used the plus-minus / left right buttons, or am I wrong?
If you love to see this project grow, think about your memberships in other forums... have you invited / told people about wikiloops there? Do you have your wikiloops-profile linked in your signatures?
theese little things count more than one may imagine... thanks guys, all support appreciated :)
