Engine-Room-Report - time again ;)
another week down the wiki-dev-road, still working down my chores list. These are good spirited days of learning and understanding what modern web techniques have to offer, and after struggling quite hard with understanding the basic concepts of Javascript (lets not forget I was never trained on any kind of code), I have finally reached a point where I'd say I have understood the ongoing magic.
As with anything else in life, things become easy once you know what you are talking about, while poking in the mist of try & error experiments can be quite nerve-wracking...
Got to say thanks again to the uncounted individuals that provide the needed knowledge freely on the internet, we wouldn't be here without all those fellow nerds out there who also believe in enabling people by sharing knowledge.
Just like we don't know what a recording shared on wikiloops will end up with remix-wise, these guys share rather complicated articles without knowing what others will do with their knowledge. It may be something commercial, but it may as well be a source of fun & friendship like wikiloops. I really need to mention stackoverflow.com here, a "wiki" for coding issues - I owe them everything I know now - Thanks, guys, thats got to be good Kharma ;)
Besides transforming ideas into coded machine language, I am spending time reflecting on what I'd call the meta-level of modern web development.
Since I have some professional background on communication and have been observing what works online and what doesn't, I am developing a new view on what the internet actually is, where the dangers of the publicly discussed "big data" aera really lie and what the mid-term impact of the internet might be on society.
We are living in an extremely interesting time, witnessing the uprising of a new age in human history. Thinking about it, the internet will change the world at least as much as the invention of book printing did, just at a much higher speed.
I'm happy to be allowed to take part in this, and part of my never ending motivation on the loop project is to use this newly arising potential in a good way - its not only about inventing a book printing press, its about printing the right books with it as well ;)
Since I have spent more time looking at the coming version than being online on the loops lately, I am already starting to miss the coming features on todays live version, which I take as a good proof the new features are cool to have - sorry about still not giving any details here, but I rather wait untill things have gone thru extended cross browser testing and some more things before I start to boast about them. Part of my developing experience has taught me to accept the fact that one might have to trash a few weeks of work if something turns out to be a dead end, and that does not get easier once you have a pack of people expecting your delivery.
As always, I am open to feature requests like (as one recent example) the excellent idea of Babbazit to offer lyrics that may be given with some mix also on the attached remixes pages - sometimes small things like this can improve the overall experience, so when ever you feel like "It would be too cool to have XY", feel free to let me know.
Lets end todays report with the usual look at the stats:
17.840 tracks online & 14.164 members right this minute - we passed the 20k-track ID a few days ago, too :)
