Recorderman Jam
Thanks to sbisio for suggesting this recording technique (called 'Recorderman') - two condenser mics positioned equidistant from the snare and kick and that's it. It's very cymbal-heavy even though the mics were quite low behind me, so I need to work on the positions more but it's a nice sound. Maybe I shouldn't hit my cymbals as hard!
Anyway I just recorded a bit funky-ish jamming to test it out. Then I thought, 'why not?'. Shove it on the 'Loops and ...

Cool beat Martin! Maybe some more depth? Missing the kick a bit! The drumming is very cool! :)

I recorded this with my overheads set as per the 'recorder man' technique. I left the rest of of my mics as per normal so have the 'close mic' version. I can upload a mix of this with the 'full depth' rig if people would like.

Very cool Martin, maybe adding a small part to it? The track could be a bit longer.... :)

The playing is fab as you do, just need for some ''fine tuning'' of mic position or so !?

Yes. This was experimenting with a 2-mic technique. The mics need to pick up less cymbals but also my cymbals are also very powerful. I'll work on it. A great technique when I want to get a more natural recording rather than precision production.

Isn't this related to how Bonzo's drums were recorded ?
I remember looking that up on YT sometime ago & some guys were getting GREAT results..
Keep at it, it certainly sounds as if you're ''in the room'' playing ;) +0
